development 2. target.

Managed to put the target in like I wanted with the center of the ellipse lighting up when it hits it. For a while I have been trying to make sound happen to the ellipse target when it gets hit by the bullet but for some reason it keeps repeating and also with an interaction when it hits the edges where if I try make it grow bigger on contact of the sides it seems to freeze.

Final

I'm not too happy with the overall aesthetics with this project and think with more time I would of focused more on the looks while most of my time was used up in the interaction. saying that I'm happy with the interaction. it may be simple in a way but its quite fun how its like your own toy gun that you can even load and you know when its firing with the sound so the sound goes well with the visuals and makes it obvious that its a gun that you are firing and how its a slightly abstract take on a bullet how it can ricochet so many times and you with the visual as well as the sound when it hits the edges. To add to the arcade sense of it with the target you can fire the bullet to try hit it any way including firing it up into the air out of the screen to make it come back down and hit the target. With more time I would of liked to learn how to make the ball slightly deform and explode and come back together when it hits the wall as this is just one of many ideas i had on the looks as I think this has a lot of potential in the aesthetics.

development.

Got the clicking and gun firing sounds in fine when you fire the ball. working on now putting in the target.

Precedent images

Im looking at the way a bullet fires and how bouncy balls bounce off surfaces and what noises are made with both bullets and bouncy balls.

Reflection.

Im happy with the outcome of the application that was made because in the end I did managed to get and illusion feel to it. However with more time and to develope this further I would of liked to make more of the ellipses and make them smaller and add in fireing the ball through all the ellipses and you have to find the real one that way. this would of been more interesting than just moving the mouse around.

Description.

I based my interaction on illusions so you have to figure out how the application works first but it is not over complicated so anyone can do it. When you first see the application you see several ellipses moving around independently but when you go to move one of the ellipses you will find that only one of them actually interacts with the mouse and gets pushed by it. The one ellipse that can only interact with the mouse is like the “leader” because when u push the “leader” all the other ellipses follow. Kind of like worker bees following the queen bee. So the illusion is created by you thinking that you can move each ellipse when you cannot. With the visual aspects of the application two ellipse’s are on top of each other and flashing while at the same time changing their shape slightly every time it flashes. The idea behind it is that when you find the “real” ellipse and you can try meshing all the ellipses together which will make different shapes and images.

FINAL.

Its hard to see what my application is doing with just images but the circles are constantly changing which is making a flashing effect when moving and as you can see once you gett all the ellipses together they form countless amounts of other images.

Development 2.

For more interaction I have added more ellipses to the apllication and while coding I found that once adding more ellipses there was only the first ellipse that was interactiong with the mouse and that when that one was moved the rest moved. Another interesting thing I have found out is how when they come together they make differant shapes.

Development 1

here i experimented with changing the colour but it did not make it seem more interesting and the colours for it didnt look good at all.

Experiment 3

This is the experiment that I am going to further develope. It is a ball that can be moved around by the red ball (the mouse) and it is contantly changing the shape as you can see in the images. I think at this stage it is very basic and it has no element of illusion which is what im aiming for.

Experiment 2

This interaction was hard to illistate with jus a still image but its a ball that you can fling in any direction you want and if u fling it hard enough it creats an illusion that there is two balls even tho its just the one ball.

Experiment 1

With this intraction inprired by angry birds I made it so the ball got flung and bounced off the "walls" of the screen and bounced back and the aim was to get it to hit the red bar. if u hit the red bar with the green ball then the ball would sink down into the ground and you would win.

inspirations

I have two completely differant inspiration images for two differant idea where one of them is to do with the interaction on how you fling an object. (the angry birds) insto something. the bottom image is focusing on the idea of illusion where you think you know what the interaction is but you get surprised by what you find.

Reflection.

I think I am happy with my end result as I got the effect and type of structure that I wanted in the end. I did find it hard to figure out how to get all the lines in the way I want them to go and it took me longer than expected to figure out how to make something for example (a = a +1) which will make something constantly grow stop at a certain point but with Stevens help I managed to figure it out. I think my 8 iterations clearly show structure in the sun and its light beams and in different ways and that (hopefully) it is obvious that it is the structure of the sun that I am exploring. If I were to expand on this project even more in the future I think that I would make more variations of a more abstract view and maybe start putting in the way light refracts and bounces off surfaces.

Final. 8 iterations

I choose to do the structure of  the sun and light beams from the sun. i progressed from just the beams too including a sun where the beams are coming off from.

Developement.

This is my first few attempts at getting the lightbeam effect that I want. some of them look like something i could potentially expand on for my finals and some of them are not.

Research.

These are just a few images I am looking like for insperation on sunlight beams and researhing how they form. I want to try get something that is similar to the bottom image.

MY IDEA.

For my idea on structure I am going to be looking at the structure of the sun and the sunlight beams. I have not decided yet if i want to make a direct replication of the structure in the sun and the sunlight beams or if i want to do it in my own abstract way. once i do some research on differant sunlight beams I will begine experimenting with how I can do this with Processing.

First attmept at doing a pattern in processing.

first attempt at making a pattern in procesing. other experiments where done but since they were not static they were hard to show as one image. With this pattern I was looking at getting structure with all the differant sized ellipse's in a line and makking it very suttle.

Pattern final

Algorithm:
1. First get a six sided snowflake off the internet. Any will do. I got mine form the first picture that came up on Google images when searching snowflake brush.
2. Duplicate snowflake at each of the six end points.
3. Take this pattern you have now and minimize it too fill in major gaps in the pattern and to make it look more rounded. This is important for the next step.
4. Now draw a circle around the rounded snowflake pattern you have and make it a light blue or on Photoshop make it colour #7ecdff.
5.  Now minimize again and make the blue circle white and invert the snowflake from white to black. After this is done duplicate and match up one end of the minimized snowflake to the main big one. Do this all around so you should have 6 mini snowflake patterns around the big one.
7. In a straight line connect all of the edges of the small snowflakes patterns together to make a hexagon and make this the same colour as the first circle you made.
8. Finally duplicate the pattern you have made so far and put two of the sides of the hexagon side by side 2mm apart.
9. repeat step 8 until your grid is filled up.
